Welcome to New Ash Green
The iconic village of New Ash Green is set in the Heart of the Kentish countryside and occupies approximately 430 acres and provides homes for around 7000 people.
It is an area which embraces scattered villages extending to the towns of Rochester, Maidstone, Chatham, Dartford and Gravesend to the east and north, and to the old villages of Farningham, Wrotham and Aylesford to the west and south.
The master planning and early design was by the architectural and landscape design practice of Eric Lyons, one of England’s leading domestic architects, who envisaged New Ash Green as ‘a lush green urbanism - the Verdant Village’.
The first developers of New Ash Green were Span. There have been several other builders and architects since, but the village was completed largely to the original master plan.
Twenty-four neighbourhoods of varying size are separated by landscaped fingers drawn in from surrounding woodland and meadows.
The village is noted for the design of the SPAN houses, the planned layout of the village (with priority given to people, not cars) and its landscaping. It is still a case study for universities around the world. It is that special!
Not only was the layout carefully planned, but so too was its administrative structure. It was devised so that the residents - not the local council - have direct control over their immediate environment. This and a mix of house types and sizes have achieved better social integration.
The village centre provides shops and offices, together with a primary school, library, health centre, medical and dental practices, village hall and a youth & community centre.
New Ash Green is exceptionally well served by rail, with no fewer than four stations - Longfield, Dartford, Gravesend and Ebbsfleet. Regular services run to London Victoria in as little as 30 minutes from Longfield; Gravesend and Dartford have frequent services into Cannon Street or Waterloo and Charing Cross. Ebbsfleet is on the High Speed 1 Line, with Eurostar trains to Paris and Brussels, and trains to St Pancras take only about 18 minutes. New Ash Green is within easy reach of the M25, M20 and M2 motorways, and road access to the north via the Dartford Crossing is just 10 miles away. There is also a successful Commuter coach service which goes into Victoria, stopping at various points across central London, including Canary Wharf.
